If you are an adult going back to school, you will be glad to know that the courses that are offered these days are not just vocational courses. but that which can help you pursue a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degree.
However, the reality of not being to school in several years might bring about common fears (and excuses!) that might stop adults from going back to school. And so here is a list of common fears that you may identify with and to how to deal with them:
#1: The inability to fit in
Most people in their thirties or forties believe that they won’t fit in with the class of students who they might have to study with. However, according to information from the U.S Department of Education, almost 40 percent of students going to college are actually 25 years old and above.
As you can see, you should be able to fit in more than ever.
#2: College is too expensive
This comes from years of having to deal with bills that have to be paid and responsibilities that have to be met. Yet you must understand that investing in yourself and your future is one of the first things that you must do if you want to have a better future.
While campus-based study will offer you all sorts of financial aid extended in the form of single mothers scholarships, the online form of study often turns out to be cheaper.
And if you get your degree, you can easily pay it all back and improve the quality of your life and work.
#3: It will take too long to complete my degree
While it traditionally takes four years to complete a Bachelor’s, two years to complete a Master’s, and almost eight years to complete a Doctorate degree, which can seem like forever to older students returning to college, the emphasis of online courses is often on accelerated learning. This means that you could potentially finish your bachelor’s degree in a year’s time if you are able to put in the effort.
